New Check Point R80.10 training

It is a pleasure for us to announce that long-awaited Check Point R80.10 training have been made available for us.

Changes from R70 to R80 version are not only cosmetic or extending product functionality. This is a real revolution comparable with those caused by introduction of Check Point NG many years ago. Check Point R80 product has been introducing just a new GUI but still the firewall itself was R77.30. This release includes also firewall module enabling full power of new features to demonstrate.

Changes are starting from user interface. GUI client is consolidated in one application giving the impression the feeling of the power under fingertips. New concepts allowing better analysis of big data are built in. For sure the new GUI will require time to get acquainted to it but certainly it is worth the effort. The new GUI is much more resource intensive and may require much stronger machines to run them.

One of the important new features is ability to provide very granular access control to Check Point configuration. This allows us for example to configure IPS or router administrator. That means that in large organizations we can split responsibilities much easier as we do not have to give all privileges to all administrators. It is also possible now to lock only objects and rules that undergo changes so we can have concurrent administrators working on Check Point security policy and objects. With R80.10 it will be possible to send only changed objects and rules by policy installation.

The most exciting change is however the ability to create multi-layer security policies. This makes policies more transparent and easer to keep track off. This should reduce the number of errors by designing and deploying application filtering together with other firewall rules.

Students who participated in R80 edition were already impressed by new features and declared strong will to test the new software to prepare for migration. In a long term one should consider seriously migration to R80.x due to hot fix and software support.

Zero Day protection and heuristic should be key elements of our strategy to protect against malware. The time of signatures is over. We should provide much more effective methods of protection. Heuristics, reputation and methods that even go down to instruction execution should be used to protect ourselves. Malware spreads so fast that without those additional methods we are not able to detect and defeat it. Sand Blast technology is one of the effective responses to them.

We know exactly how to protect local resources. Cloud security imposes new problems on us. vSEC solution addresses exactly cloud service protection extending again Check Point products portfolio.

The new courses are already available or will be available soon in our portfolio. These includes “Check Point Cyber Security Administrator R80.10 (CCSA)” and “Check Point Cyber Security Engineering R80.10 (CCSE)”. Apart from the regular courses workshops “vSEC-AWS” and “Sand Blast Zero Day Protection” are made available. The workshop for Microsoft Azure cloud solution is also foreseen. The regular training prepare for proctored exams that can be taken in Pearson Vue testing centers. Number of questions for the regular exams was recently raised to 100. After workshops, there is a possibility to take “low impact” exams via the web. The number of questions is lowered to 40. Taking two of them extends Check Point certification by one year. Details will be provided during workshops.
