WORKSHOP "Analysis of Radio Transmissions"
When: 18.08.2023 (09:00-16:00)
Where: Online
Number of places: 16
Presenters: Zbigniew Jakubowski & Grzegorz Marczak
Attention: We accept a maximum of one person per company/organization due to the limited number of seats. Independent practical exercises during the workshop are performed by two people working a common station.
Modern devices eagerly use wireless communication due to its numerous advantages such as simplicity of configuration, flexibility, affordable price of ready-made radio modules or their small dimensions. Typically, we expect high data rate transfer from radio protocols. IoT devices often focus on completely different requirements, such as, for example, low power consumption and thus long battery life. We live in a world where we see only a fraction of reality.
Our phones or laptops efficiently show us only the world of WiFi devices. In fact, we are surrounded by a lot of devices using completely different protocols such as Zigbee, Z-Wave or ESP-now. The first stage in understanding the wireless networks around us is the analysis of the radio spectrum. This, as a rule, is also the first step in the analysis of IoT devices.
Agenda:
During the workshop, we will get acquainted with the analysis of the radio spectrum in order to find the frequency of radio transmissions and identify the protocols used by the devices. In addition, using SDR (Software Defined Radio) software, we will attempt to decode protocols. To achieve this goal we will use devices such as HackRF One, UberTooth One in combination with appropriate software.
