The Communications World Editor\'s Choice award for 2007 is further recognition for the BlackDiamond switching platform, showcasing its ability to cost-effectively serve a wide array of leading-edge convergence and security requirements for enterprises. The BlackDiamond switching platform and ExtremXOS operating system have been honored on numerous occasions for their innovation and utility. The BlackDiamond switch was named "Technology of the Year" three separate times by InfoWorld Magazine, for 2007, 2005 and 2004. Additionally, TechWorld Magazine of the United Kingdom named the BlackDiamond 8800 switch its Network Award winner as the "2005 Switch Product of the Year."

A Leading-Edge Modular Switch

The BlackDiamond 8810 switch provides high availability and resiliency, which is ideal for converged enterprise networks of all sizes. The BlackDiamond 8810 benefits from the ExtremeXOS®, the industry\'s unique core-to-edge modular operating system. It features bandwidth management with Quality of Service (QoS) and the Ethernet Automatic Protection Switching Protocol (EAPS) for fast sub-50ms failover of services on a ring, which allows IT managers to configure the switch to offer module redundancy in case of component failure.

In addition to its high performance connectivity for converged networks, Communications Week editors were impressed by the BlackDiamond platform\'s intrusion protection security features, offering Layer 2 through Layer 4 packet inspection. Using Extreme Networks powerful sFlow® technology, the switch provides threat detection and response by offering continuous and simultaneous monitoring of application-level traffic flows on all interfaces to stop threatening traffic without shutting down network operation.
