Network Intrusion and Penetration Techniques

Training goals
From Internet Security Systems comes the definitive training in anti-hacker techniques -- Network Intrusion & Penetration Techniques. This course provides a structured methodology for detailing the practices crackers use to assess and attack corporate networks. The course employs a network laboratory that simulates a corporate Internet site, enabling practical demonstration of assessment techniques and security exploits that can critically damage an organization's vital IT infrastructure.
Any compromise of the infrastructure can lead to financial sabotage, theft of proprietary data, or loss of reputation - the ramifications of which are often priceless. This course provides valuable insight into how hackers circumvent and defeat security controls in networked environments, applications and operating systems - even within a seemingly secure environment.
Training days

Conspect
Overview: Introduction to basic operating systems and network security principles. This session includes a short overview of legal issues and a "real-life" description of a typical hacking methodology.

Active information gathering and target mapping: Students witness various tools and techniques used to gather valuable information on target networks and hosts. They then use the data to map the network and targets. Hands-on demonstrations and laboratory tests accompany the tutorials.

Vulnerability mapping and exploitation: Once targets have been mapped, students move on to considering which areas are likely to be vulnerable and open to attack, and they discover various tools and sites for finding exploits. The instructor guides students though techniques through which they attempt to gain entry into the test lab's sample company architecture based on the results of the assessments discovered thus far.

Vulnerability exploitation, summary and examination: Following a summary of the methodology, techniques and tools discussed, students focus on compromising a particular system in the sample company. They are required to perform all steps in the methodology outlined in the course, finally identifying a valid exploit on the Internet and taking control of the system. Having successfully gained access to the target system, they are given a demonstration of how an attacker may proceed further into the target company's networks and systems. This is followed by a course examination.

Requirements
To qualify for participation in this course, students must have:
  • A recognized networking essentials qualification or equivalent technical experience. This should include knowledge of IP, TCP, UDP and ICMP, and an understanding of network troubleshooting and technologies such as routers and switches.
  • User knowledge of both Microsoft Windows NT and Unix and administrative knowledge of at least one operating system.
  • Knowledge of secure networking principles and design, corporate system security strategies and conceptual knowledge of firewalls and intrusion detection systems.

Certificates
The participants will obtain certificates signed by Internet Security Systems
