NSA: High Availability

Training goals
NSA: High Availability is a one-day instructor led course, covering resilient implementation of Firewall-1 on the Nokia IPSO security system. The course provides theory and practice of High Availability in a complete Check Point Nokia IPSO security system. The course is designed to be hands-on, and students will implement a security system with minimal - known and quantified - single points of failure during lab exercises.

NSA: High Availability does not cover the use of dynamic routing as a resilience mechanism. Dynamic routing and routing over Check Point VPN are covered in NSA: Connectivity which is highly recommended if you need to understand all of your options in implementing a highly available system.

Who Should Attend

Technical persons tasked with the design, installation and operation of Nokia security solutions with high uptime targets or where systems cannot be easily taken down for scheduled maintenance and upgrade. This includes operation of any system where pairing IPSO systems in a cluster or a resilient pair mitigates a single point of failure.

Topics covered in the course
  1. Theory of resilient design
  2. VRRP – simplified, and traditional mode MC
  3. IPSO clustering
  4. Check Point clustering, cluster objects, synchronization, sync configuration, and tuning by protocol and by delayed sync
  5. Clustering integration with switches
  6. Dual power, dual hard drive mirroring
  7. Check Point multiple link/ISPs
  8. Static route priorities and failover
  9. Link aggregation
Course objectives

Upon completing this course, participants will:
  1. Understand the theory of resilient design
  2. Understand the IPSO alternatives of clustering and VRRP
  3. Understand how to combine these mechanisms with power provision, appropriate switching technology and other related technologies to remove all single points of failure
  4. Install an end-to-end solution

Requirements
Persons attending this course must have attended NSA: Foundation or the seceded NSA I class, and they should have passed NSA certification.
Certificates
The participants will obtain certificates signed by Nokia Enterprise Solutions.
